On June 18th, 1880 we find James on page 3, line 36 of the Federal Census living in his fathers (J. L. Hoyle) Household in Forney's Creek Township, Swain County, North Carolina. At the time of the census James is 12 years old, was born in NC, was a laborer, attended school that year and can read/write.

He went on to marry Arta Clementine "Tine" Shuler (1868-1897) on July 21st, 1889 in Jackson County, North Carolina.

On July 12th, 1870 we find Arta on page 10, line of the Federal Census living in her fathers (Jacob Shuler) household in 65th Subdivision of Webster Township, Jackson County, North Carolina. At the tiem of the census Arta is 1 years old and was born in NC.

On June 16th, 1880 we find Arta on page 12, line12 of the Federal Census living in her Mothers (Fanny C. Shuler) household in Scott's Creek Township, Jackson County, North Carolina. I assume that her fathers has passed a some point before the census was taken. At the time of the census Arta is 11 years old and was born in NC.

In June of 1891 their first child, Marion L. Hoyle was born in Forney's Creek Township, Swain County, North Carolina. After the census of 1910 I can find no trace of Marion.
The online community has Arta dying on December 6th, 1897 in Jackson County, North Carolina. I have yet to find any source information for her death. Given there is a 6 year difference in births for Jame's first and second child I'm more inclined to think Arta died much sooner. I think Marion was her only child. After all Arta named him after her father Jacob Marion Shuler (1846-1924).
After the birth of James' second child William, the next child was born about 2 years later. Which would suggest that James' second wife, Sarah was William's mother as 2 years between children is more of a natural distance between siblings for most families. Currently Arta's burial location is unknown. At the time of her death she was about 23 years old.

Sarah was born on January 9th, 1874 in North Carolina to Thomas "Tom" Walker (1858-1875) and Malinda "Lynda" C. Brooks-Walker (1853-1932). Sarah's father died shortly after her birth and her mother remarried to George Washington Shuler (1853-1927). Sarah wasnt listed as a child on the 1880 census with her mother and step father. Which begs the question; where did she go and who raised her? I checked with her maternal grandmother; Lucinda Blanton-Brooks (1823-1909) but Sarah wasn't listed on the 1880 census with her. As for her paternial grandmother; Margaret Higdon-Walker (1815-1880) she passed away that same year. As for a possible Uncle/Aunt taking her in the Brooks family didn't have anyone old enough as Malinda her mother was the first born child. As for her father's siblings; I currently do not have any census info for his family. For now it will remain a mystery.
The census of 1890 was destroyed by fire. The only part to survive for North Carolina was the census taken in; South Point Township, Riverbend Township and township #2 in Cleveland County.

She went on to marry Samuel Newton Mills (1872-1946) on January 24th, 1931 in Jackson County, North Carolina. Sam was previous married to Ida Muriel Bryson (1882-1930). From this union at least 8 children were born; Gertie 1903-1977 (Frank Ora Wood 1894-1982), Pearl Allie 1905-1980 (Loranzo "Ransy" Washington Fisher 1898-1968), Oma Emaline 1906-1990 (Alex G. Hodgin 1902-1934 and Butler), Garland Joseph 1910-1993, James Warren 1913-1997, Della 1915-1915 (Infant), Unnamed Daughter 1918-1918 (infant) and Katie Victoria 1920-2001 (George Franklin Abell and Mayer). There at least 1 child born to this union; Florence Oline Mills 1934-1934 (Infant). On July 22nd, 1934 Florence died in Caney Fork Township, Jackson County, North Carolina. At the time of her death she was 36 years old.

On December 7th, 1970 James died in Jackson County, north Carolina. At the time of his death he was 70 years old.
On January 5th, 1903 their fourth child, Della Lee Hoyle was born in Forney's Creek Township, Swain County, North Carolina. She went on to marry Robert Frank Shuler (1908-1998) on September 13th, 1929 in Haywood County, North Carolina. From this union at least 2 children were born; Dorthy Jane 1931-2001 and Lucy. On August 2nd, 1993 Della died in Jackson County, North Carolina. At the time of her death she was 90 years old.

On November 7th, 1982 Emmaline died in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. At the time of her death she was 78 years old.

On May 17th, 1990 Ellen died in Arlington, Washington, District of Columbia. At the time of her death she was 85 years old.

On September 4th, 1988 Hentry died in Sedro Woolley, Skagit County, Washington. At the time of his death he was 81 years old.
