Shortly before her death, Cynthia left the family homestead on Cole branch creek to John Clingmang Cole (1901-1990) and his Wife Emeline. There was no will or official document to prove this just an honest pact between mother and son.

On August 9th, 1943 the graves of Joseph, Cynthia, Thomas and Theordore were relocated to Lauada Cemetery in Bryson City, Swain County, North Carolina by the Tennessee Valley Authority as part of the Fontana Lake expansion due to the construction of the Fontana Damn.

After the 1943 TVA cemetery relocation of Cynthia and some members of her family, John and Emeline sold the family homestead to the TVA and moved to Whittier, Swain County, North Carolina. They very much wanted to stay but the soon to be flooded Fontana Lake would have the only main road (NC 288) flooded with no way to get to town or to work.
