Michael and Sarah Parker-Hoyle

On May 22nd, 1814 Michael Hoyle was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina to John Hoyle (1790-1830) and Rebecca Workman-Hoyle (1791-1860).

He went on to marry Sarah "Sallie" Parker (1812-1890) about 1839 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. A record of their marriage has yet to be discovered. I can only assume that would be due to the Rutherford County court house fire of 1907. Most of the documents on file were a total loss. They had at that time written records from 1779 to 1907 for not only Rutherford county but also for Tryon County as well.

Sarah "Sallie" Parker was born about 1812 in North Carolina to Andrew Parker (1790-1857) and Nancy Ann Lucas-Parker (1791-1854).

About 1852 their fifth child, Artie Elvira Hoyle was born in Haywood County, North Carolina. She had one child by an unknown man; Martin Hoyle (1866 - 1939) first married March 7th, 1888 to Mary Jane Alice Blanton (1871-1902) then to Parthenia Henry (1882-1971). In 1892 Artie Elvira Hoyle died in Bryson City, Swain County, North Carolina. She was buried in the Hoyle Family Cemetery in Bryson City, Swain County, North Carolina. At the time of her death she was 40 years old.

About 1853 their sixth child, Levi W. Hoyle was born in Haywood County, North Carolina. Levi was disabled from birth. He never married or fathered children. Levi lived with his parents until the census of 1880. I have no record of his death nor have I found him living with any relatives.

About 1855 their seventh child, Ita Hoyle was born in North Carolina. She never married but supposedly had several children by a married man; James Robert Long (1846-1877). From this union at least 2 children were born; William Hoyle (1871-?) and Westley Hoyle ( 1877-1913) married October 24th, 1897 to Mary Jane Henry (1876-1964). Very little is known about Ita. her death information has yet to been found. There is a child buried in the Hoyle Family Cemetery Hattie Hoyle (1985-1890). It is also possible that this too many have been a child of Ita's as her mother would have been too old in 1885 to have another child. Rebecca her sister was already married and out of the house by that time so I doubt the little girl was hers either.

On July 23rd, 1860 we find Michael Hoyle living in Jackson County, North Carolina as head of household on page 54 of the Federal Census of 1860.
